Alasdair Monteith & Master Teng Wie Yoo


Our Grand Master is Mr Teng Wie Yoo. In 1973 Master Teng was a San Shou (Chinese kick boxing) gold medallist at the Asia Games in Kuala Lumpur. In 1979 he was elected as the Master of Selangor Chin Woo. Master Teng practises the Chin Woo Shaolin Kung fu system from the open hand and weapon routines through to preying mantis and monkey boxing. He also teaches Qi qong, 42 Step Tai Chi along with Ung Tai Chi sword and spear. Most notably in 1991 the Malaysian Wushu Association asked Master Teng to be in charge of all 10 schools in Selangor state. Master Teng is qualified to teach Chin Woo, Tai Chi, Northern Lion Dance and international Wushu routines. He is also a qualified in Acu-pressure and reflexology.

Our Head Coach and Director, Alasdair Monteith trains regularly in both China and Malaysia. Alasdair is a BGA Class 4 Men's Gymnastics Coach. In 1991 he attained gold and silver medals in the Chin Woo World Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the following year attaining the silver medal in China. In 1994 he travelled to Beijing and competed in The Beijing Wushu Institute's International Competition and gained silver and bronze medals. In 1995 he represented to represent Great Britain in The 3rd World Wushu Championships in Baltimore, USA.

Tai Chi Coach Krishnaa Chaudhari has been involved in sport for many years, achieving a high standard in swimming in her youth. She is also a qualified gymnastics coach. Krishnaa studied yoga in India for eight years and has been training in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu since 1988. In 1989 she commenced Tai Chi training. In 1993/4 she studied with Dr Li Shao Xiong from Beijing, and Dr Musen also from Beijing, with whom she demonstrated Tai Chi at the Victoria and Albert Museum and in Birmingham's Chinese New Year Celebrations. Since 1995 Krishnaa has been studying the Chen style Tai Chi Chuan, including the straight sword routine, and Chi Kung with Michael Tse. Krishnaa has been teaching Chin Woo wushu in schools since 1992, and adults since 1994. A high point of her martial arts career was her 1995 visit to China.

Glen Stanway, Master Teng Wie Yoo & Steve Russo

Wushu and Pre-school Coach, Steve Russo has been teaching gymnastics from recreational to squad level full-time since 1995. He has entered many competitions, winning first places in Traditional Weapons in the IMAF World Forms Competition and the Combat Magazine Open in 1998, and also in the San Shou (Full Contact Chinese Kick boxing) at the 1997 Festival for Chinese Martial Arts. Steve has also won third places in the Wah Lum Open and 2nd British Open Tournament, both in 1995.

In 1995, Club Secretary and Assistant Coach, Glen Stanway joined the association after receiving back and neck injuries in a car accident a year earlier. Through his gymnastic and martial art training he has overcome the restrictions of his injuries, something that doctors and physiotherapists failed to achieve. As well as being a qualified coach, Glen is a BCCMA Quinda (Light Contact Sparring) Judge and Referee. Glen has won first place in Traditional Weapons in the Combat Magazine Open 1998 with third places at the 1998 London Open Wushu Festival and IMAF World Forms Competition. Glen has trained and demonstrated in Malaysia.


Under the guidance of our Chief Sparring Coach, Terry Whyte, the club has enjoyed a great deal of success in competitions across the country. Terry himself trained at the All Stars Boxing Gym and has competed in Malaysia gaining silver medals in 1991.

For the past few years he has been teaching martial arts, gymnastics and boxing.

All our coaches are qualified to teach by the British Gymnastics Association and BCCMA, the only official governing body for Chinese martial arts, and are all fully insured. BICMA members come from all walks of life from children and young mothers to middle aged business men. We have a maximum of thirty students in any class with at least one coach. That allows for quality coaching time.
