A man known as Ian or Yan Thompson is running a class in Swindon
claiming to teach Chin Woo and calling himself The British Institute for Chinese Martial
Arts. He has used our logos without our permission and claims to have trained with Master
Teng. He is not qualified by us or Master Teng, and has never trained with Master Teng.
All our coaches are highly qualified to teach martial arts and gymnastics and are fully
insured. They are all happy to show students their qualifications upon request. Mr
Thompson is MOST DEFINITELY NOT A MEMBER OF THE BRITISH INSTITUTE FOR CHINESE MARTIAL ARTS.
Our solicitors are currently initiating proceedings to arrest this matter and I will
publish the outcome of any action shortly.
New Beginners Class Starts 10th October 1999
Due to the increasing number of people taking an interest in Wushu,
a second Beginners Class has been developed. It will run from 10:00am -12:00pm on
sundays and will be held at the Sudbury Junior School Hall, Watford Road, Wembley, Middx.
Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm. Cost: £7.00 Adults /£5.00 Child.
World Championship Success for BICMA
Following the British Institute for Chinese Martial Arts' very
successful trip to Malaysia this August to train with their Grand Master, Mr Teng Wie Yoo,
kung fu and gymnastics instructor Alasdair Monteith, 33, and Mirella Dellafiora, 15, flew
back to the UK to meet up with Alexis Georgiou, 17 and Ken Leung, 15. They had been
selected to represent Great Britain at the WKA World Championships in Hanover, Germany on
25th August 1999. Competition was fierce with 32 countries represented from around the
world. Alexis was unfortunate not to compete in the finals on 28th August after coming
equal fourth, where only one athlete could go through. On the final day our team did
extremely well with Ken and Alasdair winning Bronze medals and Mirella adding a Silver to
her ever-expanding trophy cabinet.
Mirella is proving to be a bit of a budding martial arts star, having played the lead part
in a McDonalds advert! In a promotion for Disney's "Mulan", Mirella had her
first taste of performing to a camera. The advert includes a "flow motion"
scene, not unlike the fast moving style of hit sci-fi flick "The Matrix".
Unfortunately, the advert was only shown on German TV!
On 25th September 1999, the BICMA Wushu Team travelled up to Chesterfield, Derbyshire for
the Combat Magazine International Open. Again they didn't disappoint with Mirella winning
First Places in the Traditional Chinese forms and Traditional Weapons, and Ken Leung
taking Second in the Traditional Chinese forms. Alasdair scored one of the highest scores
of the day and returned with a Bronze Medal for an excellent Preying Mantis routine in the
Senior Traditional Chinese forms category. In the evening the team performed one of the
most entertaining demonstrations of the day to a most appreciative audience.
Satellite viewers will be able to see all the action from the above events in November on
Sky TV.

Notification of Formation of Private Limited Company
For four and a half years the British Institute for Chinese Martial Arts has been a
small, but rapidly expanding club for martial artists and gymnasts. The past two years has
seen the association take off and our horizons broaden. Our regular classes now include
Children's and Beginner's Classes, Traditional Wushu, Tai Chi and Qi Qong, San Shou
(Chinese Kick Boxing), Competition Squad Training, Adult Gymnastics and Yoga. In addition
to the regular classes, we teach children in schools all over
London and adults in various companies and fitness centres, including the BBC. Our first video has just been
released (see below), with more to follow, and the
publication of our first book is due very soon. We offer one of the most comprehensive
Martial Art Coaching Courses, and seminars on self defence, fear and stress management,
and careers in action films. Our Head Coach, Alasdair Monteith, brings our Grand Master,
Mr Teng Wie Yoo to England from Malaysia once a year so that members get a chance to meet
and train with a genuine master. He will be leading his eleventh visit to Malaysia this
August, taking twelve members of the association to train with Master Teng. The
association has a very prestigious competition record which includes many national and
international champions, and has provided athletes for magazines, motion capture,
television and films.
We have now reached a stage where to maintain our standards of quality coaching and
professionalism, the association has to be operated as a full time concern. To this end,
on 7th April 1999, The London Chin Woo Company Limited was
incorporated and registered with The Registrar of Companies for England and Wales
(Companies Act 1985).
The company number is 3746988. The registered Director is Alasdair Monteith, and
Company Secretary, Glen Stanway.
All enquiries about The London Chin Woo Company Limited can be made to us directly or
to Companies House, Cardiff.
We hope that this will be the beginning of a long and prosperous future for the company
and all our clients.

World Championship Selection for Kung Fu club!
A team of 6 students from the British Institute for Chinese Martial Arts delighted a
massive audience at the BCCMA
South East England Kung Fu (Wushu) Championships in Epsom, Surrey
on Sunday 28th February 1999.
The event featured competitors from all over Southern England and London, and even some
members of the Great Britain Wushu Team!
The team consisted of Mirella Dellafiora (15), Tomek Dziedzic (19), Alexis Georgiou
(16), Rino Landolfi (25), Cem Nazim (18), Steve Russo (32) and Glen Stanway (26). Alexis
was the first one up in the Chang Chuan Category. Chang Chuan is a standardised
competition routine which is used for the World Kung Fu Championships. The team followed
Alexis's excellent standard setting performance, with Cem (in his first ever competition!)
attaining the highest score from the British Institute. In a category that included
several members of the Great Britain Wushu Team, we were
unfortunate to only gain one medal, being Cem's Bronze. The afternoon saw Steve and Glen
narrowly beating two members of the Great Britain Wushu Team to
take Gold in the Two Person Weapons Routine category.
Alasdair Monteith from Temple Fortune, Head Coach and Director of the British Institute
for Chinese Martial Arts, said, "It is remarkable to think that in just a couple of
months they could learn the standardised international routine and compete it successfully
against athletes who have competed for many years!".
As a result of the British Institute for Chinese Martial Arts' recent successes six
members of the association have been selected to represent Great Britain at the 5th WKA
World Championships in Hanover, Germany from 25th - 31st August 1999. Those selected were
Mirella Dellafiora (15), Alexis Georgiou (16), Ken Leung (15), Ray Loke (17), Jeshuah
Robinson (12) and Alasdair Monteith (32).
Alasdair trains regularly in both China and Malaysia. In 1991 he attained gold and
silver medals in the Chin Woo World Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the following
year attaining the silver medal in China. In 1994 he travelled to Beijing and competed in
The Beijing Wushu Institute's International Competition and
gained silver and bronze medals. In 1995 he was selected to represent Great Britain in The
3rd World Wushu Championships in Baltimore, USA. Alasdair is now
a regular columnist for "Combat" magazine.
